Paint Correction & Ceramic Coating
Paint Correction
Over time, the outside appearance of your car will suffer from daily use, exposure to the elements, and even damage caused by regularly using an automated carwash. Brand-new vehicles can also have imperfections in the paint from the factory that need addressing. The remedy for both of these situations is a process called paint correction, which will remove the imperfections and make your paint look smooth and glassy.
Paint correction describes using specialized machines and materials to skim microscopic layers of your paint to gradually level the surface, eliminating texture and scratches. This procedure typically involves several stages of wet-sanding, buffing and polishing with different strength compounds, and then a final topcoat (ceramic coating) is applied to protect the refinished area. Depending on the condition of your car, this can take anywhere from 5 to 30 hours to complete. A similar process can also be used to repair haziness and improve the clarity of aged headlight lenses.
Do-it-yourself (DIY) polishing kits can be purchased from stores; however, these kits rarely include suitable materials to produce a high-quality finish. And automotive paint or plastic headlight lenses can easily be permanently damaged by the friction-induced heat created when polishing, so it is a task best left to professionals.
Ceramic Coating
The mirror-like finish of a newly paint-corrected vehicle is best preserved by applying a ceramic-based topcoat to the repaired surface. This coating will keep your paint looking its best for longer, make it hydrophobic to prevent water spotting, and make it easier to keep clean.
Ceramic coating is a liquid paint sealant that is applied by hand and hardens into an invisible shell protecting the paint and clear coat underneath. Unlike the waxes of yesteryear, which only temporarily improved the glossiness of your car, ceramic coating enhances the appearance of your vehicle in the same way but better, is durable enough to prevent damage to the paint beneath, and is designed to last for several months or even years.
Ceramic coatings offer some of the same benefits as paint protection film; however, it is a thinner chemical-based coating versus a physical film protectant. Ceramic coating can be applied on top of PPF to provide water-repellent qualities to the film (permitting that the two products are compatible and product warranties are not affected).
Ceramic coating is also commonly applied to wheels and brake calipers for appearance protection and to make it easier to clean brake dust buildup.
Please note that we only recommend the application of ceramic coating after first completing a paint correction. This recommendation also applies to new vehicles.
